Client

Linköpings University, Sweden

Target group

young people (19-27 years) who eat meat

Project

Group Project, all roles were split equally

Time period

January - June 2022

Problem

Many young people are interested in sustainability and are trying to integrate it into their everyday lives. Although many people know that meat production has a negative impact on the environment, they find it difficult to change their habits. Most people lack alternative recipe ideas and the knowledge of how to cook meat-free dishes.

Solution approach

My Veggie Day is an app that encourages people to try vegetarian dishes. Through recipe ideas, daily habit trackers and rewards, young people can learn to eat a balanced, meat-free diet in a fun way.

Interviews

The aim of the project was to develop an interactive system that contributes to solving one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We chose Goal 13 ‘Climate Action’ and focussed on reducing meat consumption.

We interviewed five people and asked them about their eating habits as well as their opinion and motivation regarding the reduction of meat in their everyday lives.

Personas

Based on the interviews, we collected all the data and looked for similarities and differences between the participants. We then created a primary and a secondary persona and suitable problem scenarios for our context.

Prototyping

Based on the needs of the personas, several concept ideas were developed in a brainstorming session. These concepts were tested using UX methods such as impact maps, concept sheets and Pugh chart. After the most important functions and the user flow of the app had been elaborated, a paper prototype was produced.

The main functions and the user flow were roughly tested on the basis of the paper prototype and finally implemented in Figma.

Usability Testing

The participants were given four task scenarios for the final user testing. We observed how effectively they were able to complete these tasks in the Figma prototype.

  1. Find a recipe that is vegetarian, gluten-free and easy to make.

  2. Add this to your progress.

  3. Find out how many VeggieDay you had this and the previous month.

  4. Find out more about how products like eggs and fairy affect the environment.

Based on the results, small design changes and suggestions from the participants were implemented in the prototype. The ideal user flow was then captured in a video.
